Deliverable: Community Parklet Concept Based in Burlington, VT

The proposed parklet will be located in the South End of Burlington, Vermont, a manufacturing district turned arts hub, in front of an inconspicuous building which houses a hidden gem: The Karma Birdhouse (KBH). Burlington locals and students recognize the KBH building by the Kestrel Coffee Roasters cafe that provides a chill place to meet, study, and dink your favorite local roast.

Less are aware of the creative community and collaborative space which houses 60 companies and nonprofits that “energize building with an interdisciplinary culture and a common creative spirit”. The Karma Birdhouse also provides community spaces available for events of all caliber, often mixing eclectic art with plants and greenery.

The goal of the parklet is to echo the energy of The Karma Birdhouse by encouraging community and creativity, but unlike KBH, this space will be outdoors and accessible to the entire public at no cost and with no stipulation. By creating a more accessible space, more people will learn of the creative companies and businesses that exist in the South End just steps away from Main Street and the waterfront.
